Fleet Templates save a frequently used ship composition so you do not need to enter ship counts manually every time. They are a convenience feature on the Fleet screen, not a separate mission type.
What exactly does this feature do?
Selecting a template fills the fleet composition from the saved configuration. You then choose the destination and mission normally. The template does not lock a target, reserve resources or guarantee that all saved ships are still available.
How does it work in practice?
At launch, the server validates current ship availability, fleet slots, fuel, cargo, mission requirements and the target. If some ships were already sent away or destroyed, a template cannot bypass that shortage.
