How do planet temperature and position affect deuterium and satellites?

Inter-War separates two similar mechanics: the planet’s stored temperature affects deuterium, while solar-satellite output is currently assigned by orbital position 1–15. Changing temperature is therefore not the same thing as moving to a different system position.

How is temperature generated?

Each position has its own Tmax range. The game rolls Tmax and sets Tmin = Tmax − 40°C. Deuterium uses the average (Tmin + Tmax) / 2. A typical position 8 has average Tmax around 50°C, giving an average planet temperature around 30°C.

What is the deuterium temperature formula?

The factor is max(0, 1.36 − 0.002 × average temperature). Synthesizer base output is multiplied by this factor. Using average values, position 1 is roughly 0.92×, position 8 around 1.30× and position 15 around 1.62× for the temperature-dependent part.

How is satellite energy calculated?

The current implementation does not substitute the planet’s stored temperature. It uses the position energy table instead. One satellite averages about 63 energy on position 1, 31.5 on position 8 and only 4.5 on position 15, before the resource multiplier and energy bonuses.

What happens after changing temperature with Dark Matter?

Changing the stored planet temperature changes the deuterium formula. In the current code it does not change the position-based satellite table because that output is selected by orbital position.

FAQ — temperature

Does a colder planet always produce more deuterium?

With the same synthesizer level and other modifiers, yes: the temperature factor rises as average temperature falls.

Do colder planets have stronger solar satellites?

No. In the current implementation the opposite is true: cold outer positions have much lower satellite energy values.

Example: a hot versus a cold planet

Using max(0, 1.36 − 0.002 × average temperature), an average of about 220°C gives a deuterium factor near 0.92, 30°C gives about 1.30, and −130°C gives about 1.62. With the same Synthesizer level, a cold planet can therefore produce much more deuterium before bonuses. Solar satellites show the opposite pattern: the position table averages roughly 63 energy on slot 1, 31.5 on slot 8 and 4.5 on slot 15. In the current code, changing a planet’s stored temperature changes deuterium output, while satellite output remains tied to orbital position.

How should the values in this FAQ be read?

The formulas and limits above describe the current Inter-War logic in the audited code. Some values are configurable per universe, so an administrator can change a multiplier without changing the underlying mechanic. If the live game panel shows a different configurable value, treat the active universe value as authoritative.

What should be checked in practice?

Before making a decision, check current building and research levels, active bonuses, universe parameters and validation messages. Inter-War often combines several layers: the base formula, server speed, Resorts, Officers, Avatar bonuses, Premium and temporary events. The server always performs the final calculation.
