An expedition can return with metal, crystal or deuterium. The built-in weight of the resource event is 28, which equals about 25% when the default total event weight is 112.
How does this expedition outcome work?
The base reward is approximately random(500–2000) × clamp(ship count, 1, 50) × random(0.80–1.40) × expedition bonus. The resource type is selected randomly.
What are the default parameters?
The formula uses the total number of ships rather than their price or combat strength. The fleet factor stops increasing at 50 ships, so sending more does not increase this base part of the reward.
What determines the result?
The final resource find is also capped by free fleet cargo space. If the rolled result exceeds available cargo capacity, the full rolled amount cannot be carried.
How should you use this in practice?
Default event weights are only the built-in starting configuration. An administrator can change them, so the real frequency in your universe can differ from percentages calculated from the default total weight of 112.
What should you watch out for?
Do not treat a single expedition as a guaranteed return on investment. The outcome is random, and even a positive event can be limited by fleet parameters, bonuses or free cargo space.
