How is a moon created?

A moon can be created next to a planet after a battle if a sufficiently large debris field exists at its coordinates. The chance is calculated from the combined amount of metal and crystal in that field.

How is moon chance calculated?

Every 100,000 units of metal and crystal in the debris field provide 1% moon chance. The maximum chance is 20%, reached with at least 2,000,000 resources in the field. If a moon already exists at the planet, another one cannot be created there.

What happens to the debris field?

If a moon is created, the part of the debris corresponding to the used chance is consumed. Any remaining metal and crystal can still be collected by recyclers.

Exact rules and formulas

Chance formula: min(20, floor((debris metal + debris crystal) / 100,000))%. Every full 100,000 resources gives one percentage point, capped at 20%.

Example: 100,000 debris = 1%, 1,000,000 = 10%, 2,000,000 or more = 20%. A 20% attempt still does not guarantee a moon.

If a moon is created, up to chance × 100,000 debris is consumed proportionally from metal and crystal; the remainder stays recyclable.

Moon diameter depends on the chance bracket: roughly 2,000–5,000 km at 1–5%, 4,000–8,000 km at 6–15%, and 6,000–9,000 km at 16–20%. Initial fields are max(4, floor(diameter / 500)).

The built-in moonshot mission uses Light Fighters only. With a 30% debris factor, one destroyed Light Fighter creates about 1,200 total debris (900 metal + 300 crystal). From zero existing debris, about 84 fighters produce 1%, 834 produce 10%, and 1,667 produce 20%.

How exactly does a moonshot work in Inter-War?

The dedicated moonshot mission accepts only Light Fighters and can target only your own planet when it does not already have a moon. All sent fighters are destroyed and 30% of their metal and crystal cost becomes debris.

A Light Fighter costs 3,000 metal and 1,000 crystal, so one fighter creates exactly 900 metal + 300 crystal = 1,200 debris. The required number can therefore be estimated as ceil(chance × 100,000 / 1,200).

If debris already exists at the coordinates, moonshot debris is added to it. The chance is then calculated from the entire current debris field, so existing debris can increase the result.

What does moon size mean?

After a successful roll, diameter depends on the chance bracket: 1–5% → 2,000–5,000 km, 6–15% → 4,000–8,000 km, 16–20% → 6,000–9,000 km. Initial fields are max(4, floor(diameter / 500)), so an 8,000 km moon starts with 16 fields.

No. It is the maximum probability, and the result is still rolled.

Can a small debris field create a moon?
